Paul Shackford, diocesan Chief Financial Officer, today issued the PowerPoint presentation that he used at the three 2014 Pre-Convention meetings. The presentation includes: (a) projected full year 2013 results, compared with the 2013 budget; (b) information regarding historical pledges to the diocese as well as detailed information regarding 2014 pledges received thus far; and (c) the proposed 2014 budget which was adopted by Diocesan Council at its December meeting, and additional information and details regarding the proposed budget.

As a concrete response to the challenge to claim God’s abundance by discovering and gathering resources to equip congregations, empower people and engage the world, the Advisor to the Bishop for Development will lead the effort in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark to provide financial resources that will equip congregations and the diocese to carry out its mission. This is a part-time position (three days a week). This position is currently open. Resumes and cover letters must be received by November 18, 2013.

A number of churches have filed and have received substantial checks from the IRS by filing certain tax forms based on the amount of the health insurance premiums the church pays. This credit began in 2010. While the instructions indicate that the deadline for filing is May 15th of the year following the tax year, we know of churches that have filed after that deadline and received checks – and we have been advised that there is no practical deadline to file.

The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS) has developed Flourish in Faith: 2013 Stewardship Narrative Series, designed to complement and support your congregation’s annual giving campaign. This year, seven contributing writers – including Bishop Mark Beckwith – plant the seeds of stewardship and faithful giving in connection with Luke’s Gospel, beginning Sunday, October 6, and continuing through November 10.
