Episcopal House Staff Opening: Advisor to the Bishop for Development (part time)

As a concrete response to the challenge to claim God’s abundance by discovering and gathering resources to equip congregations, empower people and engage the world, the Advisor to the Bishop for Development will lead the effort in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark to provide financial resources that will equip congregations and the diocese to carry out its mission. This is a part-time position (three days a week). This position is currently open. Resumes and cover letters must be received by November 18, 2013.

Job Description

The Advisor to the Bishop for Development will:

  • Work with the Bishop to develop a strategic vision for the diocese, identify fundraising priorities, and craft a strong case for support.
  • Identify, research, cultivate and solicit major donors.
  • Develop and grow an individual giving program.
  • Design and implement cultivation plans for donors, congregational leadership and clergy.
  • Coordinate and assist in preparing grant requests.
  • Work with key stakeholders, including clergy and diocesan council, to develop awareness and support of diocesan fundraising efforts.
  • Support and cultivate planned giving efforts in the diocese.
  • Work with the Chief Financial Officer to provide support and resources to congregations for congregational stewardship.
  • Develop annual development plan and budget.
  • Set up sustainable systems to manage gift processing, gift acknowledgements, reporting and donor management.
  • Work closely with the Bishop, Canon to the Ordinary, Chief Financial Officer, and the Fund Development Committee and serve as a member of the diocesan Leadership Team.
  • Part-time (three days a week), with flexibility.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor Degree, minimum.
  • Proven ability and knowledge of fundraising (five years minimum experience), preferably in individual giving and major gifts
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, such as the Microsoft Office Suite and fund development software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated personal initiative.
  • Familiarity with the Episcopal Church and its organization/structures.

The Bishop and the Chief Financial Officer

Compensation

This is a part-time position. No benefits are available. The location of this position is 31 Mulberry Street, Newark, NJ.
