The Alleluia Fund for Outreach supports congregation-based or -affiliated programs providing practical, hands-on support to those most vulnerable in our diocese and internationally. Key areas of support include food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, education for youth and adults, and international programs providing relief and/or support of the Millennium Development Goals.
The Gertrude Butts Fund, a non-profit corporation organized in 1929, provides “seed money” for programs within the diocese which are educationally driven and benefit youngsters with diocesan affiliations.
The Gertrude Butts Fund was established to carry out provisions of the will of George Butts in memory of his daughter Gertrude who died at the age of 14. Income from the fund is used to provide collegiate or vocational scholarship assistance to youth in need in the Diocese of Newark.
The Green Revolving Fund (GRF) of the Diocese of Newark is available to member congregations to finance energy efficiency and retrofit projects.
On May 11, Diocesan Council approved the ACTS/VIM grant board’s 2016 recommendation for awards totaling $155,000. These grants will help support eighteen different programs offering basic necessities including food, shelter, and education to our neighbors throughout the diocese, of which the food pantry at Church of the Holy Spirit in Verona is just one example.
The Ward J Herbert Board has recommended, and the Diocesan Council has ratified the following awards for the first cycle of 2016 for June funding:
Diocesan scholarships for the academic year 2016-2017 are now accepting applications from young members of our congregations seeking higher education.
