For this Diocesan Council meeting, the 6 p.m. dinner will be condensed to allow the business portion to begin at 6:15 p.m. and finish by 7:30 p.m. At 7:30 we'll begin the Fall Budget Hearing which is open to members of the diocese.
The Finance Department will host a Clergy Compensation & Church Tax Workshop on two dates, Tuesday, September 24 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 26, 2013, from 9-11:30 a.m. (The same presentation will be made at each workshop.) They will be conducted by Bill Geisler, a tax expert in compensation and other matters that affect clergy and churches, and Paul Shackford, diocesan CFO. Clergy and treasurers are invited to attend.
Are you interested in starting a Planned Giving program at your congregation... but don’t know what it entails or where to start? Or do you have an existing Planned Giving program, but are having some challenges? Or do you just have questions about Planned Giving. If so, this workshop is just what you are looking for.
“Excellence in worship, sufficient pastoral care, and adequate administration.” Now retired as director of congregational development for the Episcopal Church, the Rev. Charles N. Fulton III asserts these three things as essential for growth and vitality of our church communities. The last of these – administration – often proves a stumbling block for smaller congregations, and we in Newark are a diocese consisting mostly of small congregations.
Those who attended our Stewardship Evening on February 28 at Episcopal House – 55 people from 35 congregations – spent an evening of conversation and sharing about stewardship in their congregations.
An annual audit of each congregation is required by the canons of The Episcopal Church (Title I, Canon 7, Section 1(f)-(g)). Not only is an annual audit an important part of ensuring that the finances are being properly recorded and maintained, it is an important part of our stewardship of the assets that God has given to us.
An annual audit is a canonical requirement of The Episcopal Church. Completed audits must be approved by your vestry and returned to the diocese no later than September 30 of the following year.
