In the hope of a faithful response to God the Search/Nominating and Transition committees began their work together June 9 at St. Luke’s in Montclair. The task ahead is to identify candidates for the election of the 11th Bishop in the Diocese of Newark.
Thank you all for your continued prayers as we prepare for the search and election of our 11th Bishop of The Diocese of Newark. This time of transition is unique, one which begins with an ending and ends with a beginning, and it allows for and calls us all into prayer and discernment.
At this time, two committees, the Search/Nomination and Transition Committees, have specific roles to play, and we have finalized the membership of those committees.

With Bishop Beckwith’s announced retirement in September 2018, the Diocesan Standing Committee has begun the work required for discerning new episcopal leadership. We have committed ourselves to thorough, thoughtful and prayerful discernment, and the next 18 months promise to be a special time of renewal, recommitment, and discovery.
The Standing Committee is dwelling in the word and prayerfully discerning the next steps in the process of calling the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Newark. We have been looking at scripture and the tradition as guided by The Book of Common Prayer.

The Standing Committee is prayerfully engaged in the work of helping the Diocese of Newark call its next Bishop. Last week the committee met with the Rt. Rev. Clayton Mathews, who provides guidance on the Best Practices used in The Episcopal Church.
