Extinct Parish Resolution: The Church of The Holy Communion, Paterson, New Jersey

WHEREAS, the church corporately known as the Rector, Wardens and Vestrymen of The Church of the Holy Communion, located at 99 Pearl Street, in the City of Paterson, County of Passaic, State of New Jersey, is a Parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark and was incorporated in 1865 (as St. John’s Episcopal Free Church) and then again in 1867 as The Church of the Holy Communion; and

WHEREAS, the Bishop and the Standing Committee duly resolved to close said parish; and

WHEREAS, the Diocese of Newark, acting through its officers and agents have further taken steps to close said Parish and to cease all functions as a parish; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that the Parish church known as The Church of the Holy Communion is hereby declared by this Convention to be extinct as a Parish; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that this the 144th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark celebrates, acknowledges and gives thanks for the One Hundred Fifty-Three year history and legacy of The Church of the Holy Communion in Paterson, New Jersey; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the dissolution and extinction of the said Parish church known as The Church of the Holy Communion in Paterson, New Jersey, is hereby approved, ratified and confirmed by this the 144th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that all assets held in the name of The Rector, Wardens and Vestrymen of The Church of the Holy Communion in Paterson, New Jersey, shall, and in accordance with Title 16, Chapter 12, Article 1, Section 16 of Revised Statutes of New Jersey, as amended, revert to and be held by the corporation of the Diocese known and designated as the Trustees of the Episcopal Fund and Diocesan Properties of the Diocese of Newark.
