On Saturday, June 16, 2012, the Diocese of Newark held its first multi-county Habitat build day.
The Newark chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE) hosted the annual Absalom Jones Day celebration On Sunday, February 12 at Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral in Newark. This annual event celebrates the life and ministry of the Rev. Absalom Jones, the first black person to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church.
Bishop Mark Beckwith, Canon Greg Jacobs and clergy and lay people in at least 20 towns in northern New Jersey distributed "Ashes to Go" at train stations, bus stops and other public locations. Here are some of the photos they shared with us.
The ordination of Beth Rauen Sciaino to the Sacred Order of Priests on December 10, 2011 at All Saint's Church in Millington.
The air bubbled with laughter and excitement as Archdeacon Peter Jackson presented bright orange Halloween cards, made by the Sunday School children of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montclair, to the children of Hogar de Niñas (a girls’ home) in Panama. The Hogar is a 90-year-old diocesan institution serving orphans and girls whose parents are unable to care for them. They receive substantial support from the Episcopal Diocese of Panama, as well as donations from churches within the Diocese of Newark.
On June 12, 2011, more than 60 members of the diocese were honored with the David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th annual Senior Ministries Evensong, held at St. Peter's, Morristown with Bishop Beckwith officiating.
