John King, who is succeeding Michael Francaviglia as Director of Administration & Secretary of Convention, officially started work on March 18. (Unofficially, he's already shadowed Michael at several meetings, including last week's Diocesan Council meeting, in order to start learning the ropes.) Michael and John will work together through Michael's retirement on April 5.

Bishop Mark Beckwith is pleased to announce that John A. King will join the diocesan staff as Director of Administration & Secretary of Convention beginning March 18, 2013.
John has over 18 years of management experience, previously holding positions with Time Inc. and RR Donnelley. Most recently he served as Project Manager with Avant Garde Information Systems.

"I think that's how our liturgy can function. It should reflect our experience of a missional God, the one who sends the word made flesh to dwell among us -- and then in turn it should fire our hearts and send us into the world bearing the brand of God, the mark we receive in baptism. "This sending out is serious. It's why we're marked with the sign of the cross, and not a smiley face."
Jesus commanded his followers to heal the sick. What does healing look like in the modern world? It looks like St. Luke's in Hope's Haven of Hope for Kids, as well as the healing ministries of St. Michael's in Wayne, All Saints' in Glen Rock, St. Peter's in Essex Fells and St. George's in Maplewood.
At St. Paul's in Chatham, "daring to be missional" looks like their "Disability & Faith" program which proclaims that all of us, including the disabled, are created in the image of God. At St. Luke's in Montclair, it looks like engaging the congregation and the surrounding community to make disciples. And at St. Paul's in Englewood, it looks like a Choir School after-school program.
Three congregations open their doors to meet the needs of their respective communities. St. Agnes' in Little Falls has opened a food pantry that includes pets as well as people. St. John's in Union City is operating as a community center with arts, wellness and after-school programs as well as a thrift shop. Grace Church Van Vorst in Jersey City involves many volunteers in its Breakfast Plus program.
