John A. King to serve as diocesan Director of Administration & Secretary of Convention

John A. King

Bishop Mark Beckwith is pleased to announce that John A. King will join the diocesan staff as Director of Administration & Secretary of Convention beginning March 18, 2013.

John has over 18 years of management experience, previously holding positions with Time Inc. and RR Donnelley. Most recently he served as Project Manager with Avant Garde Information Systems.

A cradle Episcopalian and the son and brother of Episcopal priests, John grew up in the Diocese of Newark and has been a member of several congregations, including Good Shepherd in Wantage, where he was a youth representative to the vestry, and St. Martin's in Maywood and Annunciation in Oradell, where he served on the vestry of each. He and his wife, Pam, and their children Megan, Stephanie and John, Jr. (ages 11, 10 and 9, respectively) live in Harrington Park and worship at St. Andrew's, where he recently served as junior warden.

John's involvement in the wider church includes serving as a member of the youth deputation to the 1988 General Convention and a lay deputy to the 2003 Diocesan Convention. He is also active in his community, serving as a State Certified Firefighter with the Harrington Park Volunteer Fire Department since 2010.

John is the son of the Rev. Alan King, who served as Rector at St. Martin's in Maywood and Vicar at Good Shepherd in Wantage before his retirement in 1995. His sister, the Rev. Kathryn King, is Rector of St. Alban's in Oakland, and his brother-in-law, the Rev. Ed Hasse, is Rector of St. Paul's in Montvale.

To aid in the transition, John will work alongside his predecessor, Michael Francaviglia, for two weeks before Michael's retirement on April 5.
