St. Paul's Church in Chatham Calls the Rev. Mary Davis as New Rector

The Wardens and Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chatham have called the Rev. Mary Davis as Rector, beginning Oct. 11. Rev. Davis comes to St. Paul’s from neighboring Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, where she served most recently as Interim Rector.

Photos: Christ Church in Bloomfield/Glen Ridge Blesses Animals and Supports Animal Shelter

Furry, feathery and slithery pets were all welcomed yesterday at Christ Episcopal Church of Bloomfield and Glen Ridge as Reverend Anne Koehler offered a Prayer of Blessing for each animal. Outside the church, JAX, the church dog, once a resident of the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, joined the human volunteers with biscuits, treats and bowls of water for the canine and feline celebrants. Donations were accepted on behalf of the shelter.

The weather held out Sunday, October 2, for the Annual Blessing of the Animals at St. George's Episcopal Church on Ridgewood Road in Maplewood.

The Feast Day of St. Francis falls on October 4 and is commemorated on the closest Sunday. St George's once a year invites all animals of fin, fur and feathers to be blessed by church priests Bernie Poppe and Chris Carroll in the Lenten Garden.

St. James's Episcopal Church in Upper Montclair hosted an eclectic congregation on Sunday as creatures great and small arrived for the annual Blessing of the Animals.

The time-honored tradition was resurrected at St. James about five years ago when The Rev. John Perris arrived at the church.

"It's wonderful to be able to honor the animals and acknowledge the special part they play in our lives," he said.

Cynthia Black.

You may, of course, contact clergy you that you know, or that have an existing relationship with your parish. However, remember that any supply clergy absolutely must be Episcopal clergy (or clergy from a Christian tradition in full Communion with the Episcopal church); canonically resident in good standing; and currently licensed in the Diocese of Newark (licenses expire annually).
