New Jersey Episcopalians conclude walk across the state in Hoboken

[The Jersey Journal] Bishop Mark Beckwith and members of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark marked the end of a six-day, 80-plus mile pilgrimage across the entire diocese yesterday with a service of thanksgiving at Pier A Park in Hoboken.

"Joining Jesus on the Journey: A river-to-river pilgrimage across NJ" started at the Delaware River in Belvidere on Monday.

Clergy Renewal of Vows

The annual clergy gathering on the Tuesday of Holy Week (April 11) begins at 11 AM with a Eucharist and a Blessing of Oils. (For those of you new to the diocese, the only clergy who vest are those who have a role in the service.)

Oils of chrism and and of healing will both be made available at the service in small blue bottles. You may also bring your own bottles to be filled at the service.

[The Star-Ledger] More than 34,500 people were shot to death in this country last year, some 21,000 of them by their own hand. An additional 27,000 are living with the wounds they sustained. The casualties roughly equal the populations of Bayonne, East Orange or Vineland. But sometimes to comprehend the degree to which gun violence has degraded our culture, it helps to focus on just one life.
