25th anniversary service for The OASIS

Save the date for the 25th anniversary service for The OASIS, the LGBT Ministry of the Diocese of Newark, Sunday, June 1, 5 p.m. at Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral in Newark. The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith, Bishop of Newark will preside. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Harry Knox, President & CEO of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. The 2014 winners of the Louie Crew Scholarship and OASIS Grant will be announced.

A national leader in the progressive faith community and a well-known advocate for reproductive and sexual health and justice, Rev. Knox was appointed in February 2009 by President Obama to the President’s Council on Faith-based & Neighborhood Partnerships. Rev. Knox was the founding director of the Human Rights Campaign’s Religion & Faith Program, where he supervised the creation of a national speakers’ bureau that reached more than 10 million Americans monthly. Before coming to RCRC, he served as Interim Executive Director of Integrity USA, the voice of LGBT Episcopalians and their allies, as well as serving as executive director of Georgia Equality. He holds a Masters in Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary, from which he received the Robert V. Moss Medal for Excellence in Ministry.

The OASIS was founded in 1989, as a diocesan ministry to gay and lesbian (and later bisexual and transgender) people. The Diocese of Newark was the first in the Episcopal Church to fully include openly gay and lesbian (and later bisexual and transgender) people in the full life of the Church. This prophetic ministry has led the way for the entire Episcopal Church and the larger Anglican Communion.

Reception to follow at Cathedral House, 24 Rector Street in Newark.

Clergy: festive stoles.
