With sadness we share the news of the death of the Rev. Walter Sobol, 82, on November 22, 2017, at his home in Savannah, GA after a long illness. He served as Rector of St. Luke's, Montclair from 1981 to 1987.

Ordained in 1960, he served congregations in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts before coming to the Diocese of Newark. After leaving St. Luke's, he served a congregation in Toledo, OH.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his daughters Suzanne Sobol Case (Alan), Maria Sobol Parrish (Steven), step-daughter Liz Stratford (William); and three grandchildren, Camille Parrish, Vincent Comparetto, and Quinn Ruff.

At his request, burial was private. The family suggests remembrances be sent to the American Civil Liberties Union.

Condolences may be sent to Mrs. Karen Sobol at 171 Lions Gate Road, Savannah, GA 31419.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant Walter to be a priest in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by his example; give us the grace to keep the faith he taught and to follow in his footsteps. We entrust him into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
