Death in our diocesan family: William Henry “Bill” Lorentz

Bill LorentzWith sadness we share the news of the death of William Henry “Bill” Lorentz, 85, at home on August 2, 2024, after an extended illness. He was the husband of Michael Francaviglia, former diocesan Director of Administration and Secretary of Convention.

Bill was admitted to the NJ bar in 1965 and spent most of his career focusing on environmental and civil rights issues, retiring in 2002. He also was an avid photographer, and active for many years in the lesbian and gay rights movement and at St. George's, Maplewood as a Vestry member and usher. Read his full obituary.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at St. George’s, Maplewood, followed by the interment of ashes in St. George's Memorial Garden.

In addition to Michael, Bill is survived by his sister, Lois Ann Selfridge, and his beloved Golden Retriever, Cody.

Rest eternal grant to Bill, O Lord; And let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Most merciful God, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding: Deal graciously with Michael in his grief. Surround him with your love, that he may not be overwhelmed by his loss, but have confidence in your goodness, and strength to meet the days to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
