To support a local domestic violence shelter, All Saints’ Church in Leonia enlisted the support of 11 area restaurants to stage their fifth annual “International Pasta Throw Down” competition.

On Saturday, April 23, more than 200 pasta aficionados purchased tickets to taste, judge, and pick the top three winning pasta dishes in an event that is widely anticipated by the community each year.

The beneficiary, the Center for Hope and Safety in Bergen County (formerly Shelter Our Sisters), provides shelter and practical support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children.

As reported in Leonia Life, the Center for Hope and Safety has helped thousands of women across Bergen County break the cycle of abuse by offering a 24-hour hotline at 201-944-9600, an emergency shelter program with therapeutic counseling, case management services, court and legal assistance and job and housing searches, a children's program to counteract the effects of abuse, a job readiness-training program and a wide range of other outreach efforts and services. About one-third of it's budget depends on donations.

All Saints’ began partnering with the Center for Hope and Safety in 2015 and has donated funds raised at its Fair in the Fall and Pasta Throw Down, as well as conducted clothing drives.
