The media is reporting the sad news that an early-morning fire has destroyed the former St. Mark's Episcopal Church in West Orange.

St. Mark's closed in 2004, and the diocesan Trustees sold the building to another religious organization in early 2015. Any media reports that it is still an Episcopal church, or that the property belongs to the Diocese of Newark, are incorrect.

"The Communion of Saints that formed, nurtured and sustained St. Mark's are mourning the loss of this much-loved church building," said the Rev. Canon Gregory A. Jacobs, Canon to the Ordinary of the Diocese of Newark.

We pray for all who have been affected by this tragic incident.

These photos of St. Mark's were taken in March 2015, the day before it was sold.
