On Sunday, February 24, 2013, the Newark chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE) hosted the annual Absalom Jones Day celebration at Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral in Newark. This event celebrates the life and ministry of the Rev. Absalom Jones, the first black person to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church. The Rev. Cindy Carr, Rector of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Reading, PA was the guest preacher, and choir members from around our diocese sang in a massed choir. Photos by James Porter of Christ Church in Teaneck.
