The sign on her office wall reads: Do Justice, Love Mercy. A balloon representation of Jonah inside the whale from Sunday’s children’s sermon rests on a table in front of the couch. A small refrigerator in the corner stocks cans of soda, ready for visitors.

The Rev. Cynthia Black is settling in.

After two decades doing ministry elsewhere, Black returned to the Episcopal Diocese of Newark at the end of June as rector of the Church of the Redeemer in Morristown. On Sept. 29, Newark Bishop Mark Beckwith formally will install Black in her new post during a Celebration of New Ministry at 7 p.m. at the church on South Street.
