This Is My Story: Learning to Share Our Faith Stories

Learning to Share Our Faith Stories
Sat, Oct 21 2023, 8:30am to 12:30pm

This session is the first of a year-long focus in our diocese on growing faith by telling faith stories. Episcopalians tend towards a private faith, yet we live in a time when people struggle with anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Our call to ministry in northern New Jersey is pressing and compelling. To rise to the need of people in our communities requires us to develop the ability to talk about our faith stories.

The session will be divided into two parts. The first part, led by Dr. Lisa Kimball and the Rev. Dr. Tricia Lyons, will focus on learning how to tell our faith stories. The second will focus on Faith Groups, which create a place to practice telling faith stories in the context of a small and trusted community.

Telling faith stories is a practice that can be learned and strengthened. While most of the time we worry about growing the church, ironically when our focus is on growing faith, we step fully into the call of connecting people to God and to others that is described in the Book of Common Prayer as the mission of the church. This is the true fundamental mission and ministry of our church. We cannot grow church if we are not growing faith.

Cost: $10; includes light breakfast.
