Death in our diocesan family: Robert Lee "Bob" Mennell, father of the Rev. John Mennell

Robert Lee "Bob" Mennell (March 5, 1934 - December 12, 2013)

It is with sadness that we share with you the news of the passing of Robert Lee "Bob" Mennell, father of the Rev. John Mennell, Rector of St. Luke's Church in Montclair, and father-in-law of the Rev. Sonia Waters, Priest-in-Charge at Christ Church in Budd Lake.

Bob was a graduate of Palm Springs High School, UCLA and Harvard Law School. He earned his LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree in taxation from William Mitchell College of Law. After serving three years in the United States Army, he practiced law for fifteen years in California and Minnesota and taught law (wills, trusts and taxation) for 15 years before spending nine years with the firm which is now Ameriprise. He is the author of numerous articles and three books on legal issues.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Bob believed that the people in Minnesota spoke with funny accents. He enjoyed entering sweepstakes as a hobby and was the co-host of the 2010 National Sweepstakes Convention. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 42 years.

In addition to John and Sonia, Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Antoinette Yarrow (Toni) Mennell, daughter Ann Mennell Clowser and son-in-law Kirk Clowser, son James Mennell and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Mennell, daughter Betsy Mennell, and eleven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at Trinity Baptist Church, 2220 Edgerton Street, Maplewood, Minnesota 55117. There will be a private burial in Cathedral City, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob's memory to Trinity Baptist Church.

Condolences may be sent to the Rev. John Mennell and family at 75 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042.

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered:
Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Bob,
and grant him an entrance into the land of light and joy,
in the fellowship of your saints;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
