The Rev. Deacon James W. Delaney

With sadness we share the news of the passing of the Rev. Deacon James W. Delaney, age 87, on Friday, February 12, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 4, 11 AM at Grace Church, Westwood. Interment will be held privately.

Born on December 11, 1928 in Paterson, NJ, Jim was a son of the late William and Vera (Gunther) Delaney. As a young man, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Clifton High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Pace University. He made his career as an accountant with IBM, retiring in 1988.

A man of strong faith, Jim was a longtime member of Grace Church, Westwood and was ordained a deacon in 1975 by Bishop Leland Stark. He served at Holy Communion, Paterson from 1975 to 1990, then at Grace Church, Westwood until he retired from active ministry after 38 years of devoted service.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet J. (Kirwan) Delaney; son William Delaney and daughter-in-law Diane, and granddaughter Abigail.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant Jim to be a deacon in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by his example; give us the grace to keep the faith he taught and to follow in his footsteps. We entrust him into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
