Lenten Organ Recital

Grace Community Music at Grace, Madison presents noontime Friday organ meditations throughout Lent beginning February 16. The recitals begin at 12:15 PM following brief (5 minute) Noonday Prayer, and end at 12:45 PM. The concerts are free and open to the public. The organ console and pedals will be projected onto the wall for better audience viewing. Dr. Anne Matlack is organist/choir director at Grace, where Friday Lenten Organ Recitals have been a Madison tradition since the 1950s, founded by her predecessor, Helen E.J. Thomas.

February 16: The series opens on with Dr. Matlack paying tribute to American organist and prolific composer Charles Callahan (1951-Dec. 25, 2023).

February 23: Acclaimed duo organists Brian Harlow and Christopher Jennings present a preview of their Feb. 25 full recital at St. John’s Church, Summit.

March 1: Organ Scholar, and Madison High School graduate, Henry Marinovic performs, including the premiere of an original work.

March 8: Anthony Hammond, music director at St. Peter’s, Morristown, will perform works by J. S. Bach and Max Reger.

March 15: Anne Matlack returns with her third annual recital of works by women composers.

March 22: The series will conclude with the annual Helen Thomas Memorial concert featuring alto Patricia Ruggles, singing some favorite Bach arias.
