Gala Organ Concert

Sat, Sep 23 2023, 6:30pm

Are you looking for something fun and extravagant to do in Morristown? Then join us for the FREE Gala Organ Concert on September 23rd at 7:30 PM!

At 6:30 PM, there will be a pre-concert discussion covering the historical nature of the organ and the upcoming console project and diving deeper into the program's work. Questions are welcome!

Event Details:

Dr. Anthony Hammond, critically acclaimed international concert and recording artist and Director of Music at St. Peter's, performs a gala concert of masterpieces for organ.

The evening celebrates a unique musical treasure housed right in Morristown - our beautiful Skinner organ, an incredibly rare unaltered instrument from 1930. To show off its beauty and versatility, Anthony will play works by Leo Sowerby ('Comes Autumn Time'), J.S. Bach (Passacaglia), Franz Liszt ('Orpheus'), and Louis Vierne ('Feux follets', 'Clair de Lune', Toccata).

Anthony is particularly well-known for his prize-winning improvisations, and the program will end with an improvisation on a submitted theme - which he won't know until he opens the envelope containing it!

This evening will kick off the long-awaited process of restoring the organ to its full glory! Admission is free, but donations are always gratefully received. We look forward to seeing you there.
