Christ Church in Ridgewood will offer the service of Choral Evensong sung by the Choir of Christ Church.
Evensong is the principle choral evening service of the Anglican Church. It is based on a combination of the daily offices of Vespers and Compline of the pre-Reformation Church. In many cathedrals and collegiate chapels and churches in England and the US, the service is offered several times per week, but always on Sunday evening. The service includes choral canticles, psalms and prayers that are more reflective in nature, stressing solace and calm at the end of a busy day and God’s protection throughout the night.
Christ Church Choir will sing Stanford’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in C Major, as well as music of Simon Lole and Alan Ridout. The service is free and open to all. A free-will offering will be received. A reception will follow in the church’s Guilds Room.
