Episcopal Community Development, Inc. (ECD) suspends public operations

This announcement is posted on behalf of the board of Episcopal Community Development, Inc. (ECD).

Episcopal Community Development, Inc. (ECD), an independent nonprofit corporation that was organized as a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, has suspended public operations effective June 14, 2013. A number of circumstances over which ECD had no control made it impossible to continue its operations.

A contingent of volunteers is being organized to conduct necessary administrative work to secure and stabilize ECD's continuation as a nonprofit entity in an orderly manner. Every effort is being made to resolve outstanding obligations and to transfer the programs of ECD to other agencies.

During the past two decades, ECD has served the revitalization needs of low-income communities in Northern New Jersey, most recently helping to build neighborhoods and change lives in the South Wards of Newark and Irvington. ECD has served more than 35,000 people and developed over 400 units of affordable housing.

FAST Construction (FAST) has been a contractor for many of ECD’s construction projects, building sound, decent and affordable housing in Newark and other communities. FAST and ECD have reached agreement in principle on formation of a joint venture, in which ECD will have a passive role, to absorb and enhance the capacity of ECD’s affordable housing development program.

Further information will be forthcoming when it is available. In the meantime inquiries may be addressed to ECD at P.O. Box 622, Netcong, NJ 07857. All written inquiries will be responded to as soon as possible.
