The Transition Process

In the Diocese of Newark the transition process is tailored to meet the needs of each individual parish while following broad principles that apply to all transitions (an example being comprehensive background checks).  Clergy transition throughout the Episcopal Church has changed significantly and continues to change at a rapid pace.  This is due to many factors including the challenges in finances many congregations face, the changes in numbers of available clergy, the makeup of the clergy cohort throughout the country and the changes in the needs of clergy families.  Perhaps most important of all, parishes need priests that are prepared to honor lay ministry, work with their parish to continually focus identity and mission of the congregation and who are seeking to pursue justice and inclusivity in ways today’s context makes imperative

Discerning a New Call?

Canon Clark is always open to meeting with clergy both from within the diocese and without about discerning a new call.  Transition Ministry is a work of the whole church seeking the will of God and the movement of the Holy Spirit, not simply filling openings.  Please feel free to reach out to Randy Johnson to make an appointment.

Current Openings

Many clergy openings for full-time cures will be posted on the Vocation Hub of the Episcopal Church and on the Transition Ministry Conference website.  Please also always e-mail Canon Clark because other positions may be available and she can discuss with you expected upcoming openings.  This is especially true if you are seeking or open to part-time cures.

PLEASE NOTE: The Diocese of Newark does not have the capacity to sponsor those without permission to work in this country for VISA’s.  Further, the time needed to obtain such a VISA will often not align with a parish’s timeline, generally the cost and delay is prohibitive
