Death in our diocesan family

With sadness we share the news of the death of David Farrand, 84, on Friday, April 24, 2026.

David was born in 1941 in New York City and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College. He retired from Morgan Stanley as a Managing Director in 1993, but the chapter of his life he cherished most were the years afterward working with several non-profit organizations, including the Episcopal Church Foundation, chairman of the board of St. Philip’s Academy in Newark (now Philip’s Academy Charter School Newark), the Board of Directors of Good Shepherd Sustainable Learning Foundation, and the Board of Directors of Good Shepherd Academy, a coeducational residential secondary school for 350 students in Bafut, Cameroon.

A devoted member of Calvary, Summit, David was for many years a leader in diocesan stewardship. Bishop John Shelby Spong appointed him chair of the first Planned Giving Commission in the diocese, and he was an active member of the Stewardship Teaching Team alongside Cynthia McChesney, diocesan Missioner for Stewardship and Legacy Giving. David also served as a diocesan Trustee (Class of 2021).

David is survived by Tyler, his wife of 61 years and the great love of his life; his children, Amyjane K. Campbell (Michael) and Christian C. Farrand; and five grandchildren who were his pride and delight – Emma, John, Sophia, Amethyst, and Reice. He is also survived by his brother, Livingston Farrand, and his sister, Sarah T. Farrand.

A Burial Liturgy is scheduled for 11 AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Calvary, Summit.

Condolences may be sent to the family care of Calvary Church, 31 Woodland Ave., Summit, NJ 07901.

Father of all, we pray to you for David, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
