Death in our diocesan family: The Rev. Henry Titus Folsom

Votive candles

With sadness we share the news of the death of the Rev. Henry Titus Folsom, 91, on May 8, 2018.

Born in Llewellyn Park, NJ to Henry Lloyd Folsom and Anna Richards Folsom, Henry attended the Taft School and graduated from Newark Academy and Yale University. Following his service as President of the Folsom Arms Company, he attended Berkley Divinity School (now Yale Divinity) and was ordained in 1957. He served as Curate at St. James, Upper Montclair (1957-1959), and Rector of St. Peter's, Washington (1959-1965) and Christ Church, Pompton Lakes (1965-1969).

From 1969 until his retirement in 1987 Henry served as Rector of Grace Church in Old Saybrook, CT. In retirement, he went on to serve in various parishes in New Hampshire, in his beloved White Mountains.

Henry was an avid rock and mountain climber. He travelled extensively, including Europe, Israel and the Caribbean, and was particularly fond of Africa, authoring a book about his adventures in the bush. However, his heart was always most content in Randolph, NH.

His family is greatly comforted by the knowledge that Henry’s life and ministry for Jesus Christ impacted many, and blessed by the testimonies that have been shared with them.

Henry is survived by his wife of 24 years, Clare; sons Henry (Kris) and Randy (Cindy); daughter Virginia Umiker (Richard); stepsons Sandy Cook (Natalie) and David Cook (Blythe); 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Peek Folsom.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19 at 11:30 AM at Grace Church, 336 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT, with a reception following. Internment will take place in Randolph, NH in August.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Henry’s name to Grace Church, Old Saybrook, CT; St. Paul’s Church, Lancaster, NH; or the Randolph Mountain Club, PO Box 279, Gorham, NH, 03581.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant Henry to be a priest in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by his example; give us the grace to keep the faith he taught and to follow in his footsteps. We entrust him into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
