Death in our diocesan family: Alice Waldon

Candles

With sadness we share the news of the death of Alice Waldon, 96, on May 23, 2018 in Ocala, FL. She was the mother of the Rev. Mark Waldon, Diocesan EfM Coordinator and Extended Sunday Supply at St. Gabriel's, Milton/Oak Ridge.

Alice was born on Dec. 29, 1921 in Citra, FL to Allison and Louise Wartmann. Allison was well known in the citrus industry and developed new strains of oranges, but he passed away when Alice was a child, and her mother raised three daughters and managed the groves as a single mother.

In 1942, Alice married Al Waldon. They were part of the greatest generation, who survived the Depression as well as the horror and devastation of World War II.

Alice's heart delighted in and tried to create beauty in and around her. She was even able to develop a unique camellia and have it registered in honor of her mother.

The Prophets taught us to worship of a Lord of Justice, Mercy, and Fidelity. Plato proclaimed a Divinity of Goodness, Truth, and Beauty. Nicene fused those two. Alice knew, worshipped, and served God as beauty. So if you would remember her, do something to make the world more beautiful... especially, for the poor and oppressed who were the friends and family of our Lord.

Alice is survived by three children, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Her husband died before her in 2012.

A memorial service will be held on June 12, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Ocala, FL.

Condolences may be sent to the Rev. Mark Waldon, 2 Marble Court, # 1, Clifton, NJ 07013-2210.

Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven. Lord, grant eternal rest, forever in the radiance of your light. Amen.
