Death in our diocesan family: The Rev. Rogelio Panton

The Rev. Rogelio PantonWith sadness we share the news of the death of the Rev. Rogelio Panton, 72, on February 19, 2021 in Panama. He had served as Assistant Clergy at Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral, Newark, and then as Clergy in Charge at the former St. Barnabas, Newark.

After growing up in Panama, he attended the Seminary of Theology in Puerto Rico. He served congregations in Panama City, New York City and Denver, CO, then changed careers to work in hospitality management for the Wyndham Resorts. He then returned to the ministry, serving a church in Panama before coming to the Diocese of Newark. He retired to Panama in 2012.

A celebration of his life was held at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Panama on February 26.

He is survived by his daughter Michelle Panton; his granddaughter Madison Panton; siblings Raul Panton, Judith Shan, Anastasia Cenci and Gisela Panton; cousins Terry Burrowes and Vanessa Panton; and other relatives and many friends.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant Rogelio to be a priest in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by his example; give us the grace to keep the faith he taught and to follow in his footsteps. We entrust him into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
