With sadness we share the news of the death of Martha Sweet Webb, 101, on November 9, 2019 at the Alexian Village on Signal Mountain in Tennessee. She was the mother John G. Webb III, who as a member of the Rules of Order Committee and the Supervisor of Elections is a familiar presence at Diocesan Conventions.
Born June 6, 1918, Martha was a graduate of Cornell University, and married John Webb, Jr during WWII. She was a member of the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and active in several other Presbyterian churches, as well as many civic and community clubs. She was a generous and joyful woman who enjoyed family history, extending hospitality, cooking, and people, and she remained active until just days before her death.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, and two sons. She is survived by her sons John and Tim, daughters-in-law Fain, Dede and Jane, seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be directed to Widows Harvest Ministries (PO Box 2307, Chattanooga, TN 37409-2307); Alexian Scholarship Fund (437 Alexian Way, Signal Mtn, TN 37377); or Hospice of Chattanooga (4411 Oakwood Dr., Chattanooga, TN 37416).
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven. Lord, grant eternal rest, forever in the radiance of your light. Amen.
