Convention Necrology Guidelines

Convention Necrology Guidelines

At each Diocesan Convention we remember those who have served the Diocese of Newark or The Episcopal Church, and have died in the past year, with the reading of the Necrology during worship.

The Convention Necrology follows the same guidelines for inclusion as "Death in our diocesan family" notices (as specified in Reporting of Deaths in the Diocesan Family):

  • Clergy who have served in the Diocese of Newark (at any time), their spouse or close family member.
  • Individuals known for their contributions to the Diocese of Newark (such as diocesan staff or diocesan committee members) or to The Episcopal Church, their spouse or close family member.

Also included in the Necrology are Bishops of The Episcopal Church. These names are provided by the Episcopal Church Center in Manhattan.

Anyone for whom a "Death in our diocesan family" notice has been sent since the last Convention is included automatically in the Necrology – there is no need to submit them again. However, if a high-resolution digital photo was not available for the notice, but is available now, we'd be happy to add it.

If you know of other individuals who did not have a "Death in our diocesan family" notice, who have served either the Diocese of Newark or The Episcopal Church, please submit their names, a brief description of their service (including formal titles), and a high-resolution digital photo.

Submissions should be sent to Nina Nicholson at nnicholson@dioceseofnewark.org, preferably by 12 noon on Wednesday, January 29. Late submissions can be accepted until 12 noon on Friday, January 31, but due to time constraints we may not be able to include the photo.
