Death in our diocesan family: Betty L. Waters

Betty L. WatersWith sadness we share the news of the death of Betty L. Waters, 94, on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Fox Trail Memory Care Living in South River. She had served the diocese as an elected member of the Department of Missions, an entity responsible for assisting mission congregations and other fledgling ministries move towards self-sufficiency, until its work was delegated elsewhere in the early 2000s.

Born in Newark, she resided in East Orange for 40 years, and moved to Edison in 2000. She worked for Western Electric in NYC for over 50 years. She was a member of House of Prayer, Newark; the former Christ Church, Belleville; the former Advent Church, Bloomfield; St. Andrew’s, South Orange (now St. Andrew & Holy Communion); and most recently St. Luke’s, Metuchen in the Diocese of New Jersey. She belonged to DAR, and Little Theater in Newark. She was involved in her various church activities, genealogy, traveling and crafting.

She is predeceased by her parents, and three siblings and their spouses. She is survived by her five nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces and -nephews and 10 great-great-nieces and -nephews.

A Funeral Service was held at St. Luke’s, Metuchen.

Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven. Lord, grant eternal rest, forever in the radiance of your light. Amen.
