151st Convention

Can it really be true? We are already just 115 days away from the Diocese of Newark’s Annual Convention! Planning has been in full swing behind the scenes, and while the various committees have been hard at work, we are excited to finally begin sharing updates with all of you.

As many of you know, this year’s Convention will look a little different than in years past. Mark your calendars: Saturday, November 15 is the day – and yes, you read that correctly – this year’s Convention will be a one-day gathering, hosted by Calvary, Summit. This streamlined format will focus primarily on the business aspects of our diocesan life, while still offering meaningful moments of worship, prayer, and connection.

Our Liturgy and Worship Committee is already preparing a beautiful service that will anchor our time together in shared faith and thanksgiving. However, due to the condensed format, we will not be offering workshops or small group gatherings as we do during a two-day convention. This marks the beginning of a new rhythm: a full two-day convention every other year, with simplified one-day gatherings in between.

What to Expect

So, what can you expect as November draws near? Over the next six issues of The VOICE Online, we will walk you step by step through everything you will need to know – from location and parking to schedules and opportunities for involvement. We will also keep you informed about how we plan to handle Convention Orientation, which traditionally takes place on Friday mornings.

Be on the lookout for the official postcard announcement, which will be sent to every church. Please display it prominently and ensure that your deputies are notified. Then, check the next issue of The VOICE Online for updates from the many committees working diligently to bring all aspects of Convention together.

Arrangements Committee Needs

The Arrangements Committee is already hard at work, but we are still in need of 1 or 2 volunteers with technology experience to assist with voting support on the day of the event. We have a wonderful team in place and will provide training and support.

If you – or someone you know, especially a college student or young adult – is interested in serving the wider Church in this unique way, please contact Donna Caputo. This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in Convention without needing to be a voting member.

As always, we are grateful for your prayers, your presence, and your faithful witness as we prepare for this time of discernment, decision-making, and fellowship. Stay tuned – and stay connected.
