The Newark Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE) awarded the first annual Clara Horsley Leadership Award to Clare E. Thompson of Christ Church, Teaneck. Thompson and fellow candidates Dorothy Folkes, the Rev. Kathleen Ballard, A. Lorraine Jones and Ruth Mayes were honored at a sit-down breakfast on September 24, 2011.
The Clara Horsley Leadership Award was created by the Newark Chapter UBE in loving memory of founding member Clara Horsley's outstanding parochial, diocesan and chapter leadership.
The event raised over $2000 in proceeds, which will go to the Newark Chapter’s Scholarship Fund to be awarded in June 2012 to deserving graduating high school students.
