Third BCEF call of 2013: Holy Trinity in West Orange Rectory Bathroom Repairs

Holy Trinity in West Orange
By:
John King, Director of Administration

The congregation of Holy Trinity in West Orange has been in existence for over a century. Formed initially as an off shoot of old St. Mark's, the congregation changed its name from St. Mark's Chapel to Holy Trinity upon incorporation as an independent mission in 1907.

For over 100 years, Holy Trinity has lived into the call of serving their community. This strong tradition is manifested today in the ministries that tend to those less fortunate in and around West Orange. Holy Trinity runs both a food pantry and a thrift shop to help their neighbors who are continually struggling to make ends meet. Christine's Kitchen provides free hot lunches each week for 75 -100 guests. Holy Trinity coordinates these efforts and welcomes the assistance of a diverse group of faith communities from the surrounding area.

Holy Trinity strives hard to be good stewards of their resources. During a recent application cycle to apply for grant funding from the diocese for their ministries, they decided to forgo the opportunity because they had received so much support from other sources that they felt it wasn't necessary to seek funds at the present time -- thus providing opportunities for the granting agency to address other needs from other applicants within our diocese.

Holy Trinity is in the process of performing some much needed upgrades to their rectory to make it a suitable living space. Currently they are seeking to fund renovations on two very old bathrooms that need a tremendous amount of work. The renovation bill for the bathrooms, approximately $14,000 in total, is more income than they can generate on their own. The Bishop is issuing this third call for the Bishop's Church Emergency Fund on behalf of Holy Trinity in West Orange. We encourage you to show back to Holy Trinity just some of the generosity that they extend to the people they serve in their community.
