[New Jersey Herald] For many people, leftovers are the norm. It’s common to cook a meal and have enough to save for another day.

For Martin Steel, a congregation member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Sparta, leftovers presented an opportunity to help the community.

“We always end up with too much,” Steel said of the meals he makes at home with his wife and two children. So he asked the Rev. Carol Gadsden, the rector of the church, to start a program in order to help benefit hungry members of the community.

Since October, the church has been collecting home-cooked meals from the congregation and freezing them.
