[The Montclair Times] The U.S. Supreme Court made a historic ruling Friday, June 26, allowing same-sex marriage throughout the nation. The issue has frequently been a subject of controversy within religious institutions. Some of the house of worship leaders in and around Montclair spoke with The Montclair Times about their opinions on the matter.

Many of the religious leaders were supportive of the Supreme Court's decision and hailed the ruling as a victory. However, others had reservations about the ruling including the motivations behind changing the definition of marriage. The separation of church and statement was also discussed.

Love wins

"God calls us to justice and I believe the Supreme Court Decision is a step in that direction. We have a long history of exclusion for the wrong reason, but God's love in inclusive of all. Last week, I participated in the General Convention of The Episcopal Church as one of the deputies from the Newark Diocese where we formally allowed marriage between same-sex couples. Love wins, and when it does God is always in the equation."
