Interim Director of Music (part time)

Music at St. Paul’s is central to the life and worship of our multi-cultural, bilingual community. Under the supervision of the Rector, the interim director of Music is responsible for organizing, leading and nurturing St. Paul’s music ministry both within and beyond the context of Sunday worship. This includes direction of a multi-ethnic, intergenerational choir, and a few instrumentalists.

The director meets monthly with the clergy to plan worship. In consultation with the clergy, the director is responsible for selecting and planning the music for Sunday services. The Director is also responsible for various special liturgies. Capacity to lead music in Spanish and a willingness to learn to work with it orally and in writing – though fluency is not a requirement. Experience in engaging in-church music ministry programs among inner-city children and youth is an asset but not a requirement.

The position is part-time –16-18 hours per week.

The Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the Thursday’s evening choir rehearsals
  • Supervising the chorister coordinator(s)
  • Leading junior choir rehearsals on Thursday and Friday afternoons (not during summer)
  • Warm-up rehearsals on Sunday mornings with all choir members
  • Keyboard accompaniment for:

    • 10:30 am English service, 1:30 pm Spanish service or 11:00 am service when it is a combined bilingual service;
    • Occasional 8:00 am service such as Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday and other Special Sundays;
    • Any special liturgies such as Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil services.
