Death in our diocesan family: The Rev. John Negrotto

The Rev. John Negrotto

We are shocked and saddened by the death of the Rev. John Negrotto, 71, late Saturday afternoon, December 13, of an apparent heart attack.

John served as Rector of Holy Trinity Church in Hillsdale, retiring in 2004 after 27 years. In his "retirement" John served as Interim Rector of Church of the Messiah, Chester, St. Peter's, Essex Fells, St. Paul's, Jersey City and churches in the Diocese of New Jersey. He was a current member of the diocesan Standing Committee.

John is survived by his wife Sue, who is a parishioner at St. Peter's, Essex Fells; a son and a daughter; and one grandchild.

John's energy and passion, his love for Christ and love of the diocese (which for John always included the Community of St. John Baptist) and everyone in it, will long be remembered.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Church in Essex Fells. Clergy are invited to vest.

Visitation will be Friday, December 19, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m., also at St. Peter's Church in Essex Fells.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant John to be a priest in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by his example; give us the grace to keep the faith he taught and to follow in his footsteps. We entrust him into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
