Death in our diocesan family: Lisa Ann Jubilee

Votive candles

With sadness we share the news of the death of Lisa Ann Jubilee, 58, on August 11, 2024. She was the sister of diocesan staff member Jane Jubilee.

Jane wrote this loving remembrance of her sister:

Lisa Ann Jubilee, the third child of the late Gloria Leanna Roberts Jubilee and the late Benjamin Douglass Jubilee, Jr., entered this life on February 21, 1966. After a brief but very full 58 years of life cut short by a painful battle with cancer, she entered her eternal phase of existence on August 11, 2024.

Lisa was born at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Her mother died tragically when Lisa was barely 3 years old, but Lisa was blessed with a second mother, the late Irma Schemitsch Jubilee, in 1970. Lisa’s childhood was spent in Basking Ridge, NJ with her father, stepmother, brother, sister and pet Airedale, Smokey. Lisa loved animals, so Smokey is with sincerest reverence included in this obituary.

Lisa was a sweet little girl, adored by anyone and everyone who crossed her path, whether that be family, friend or perfect stranger. Everyone who laid eyes on her marveled at her cuteness and sweetness which were the physical manifestations of her inner beauty and angelic nature. Throughout her whole life, Lisa left an indelible impression of kindness and caring. Anyone fortunate enough to be in her orbit, even briefly, can cherish the experience of having known her kindness and generosity of spirit.

Lisa was devoted to her family, especially to her parents. She lived to please them and molded her life’s work and aspirations around their care and wellness. She graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in chemistry, foods and nutrition, and immediately followed that with a master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from New York University. An over 20-year, New York-based career in nutritional consultation followed. Lisa loved New York City, and there is where she and her career flourished. Over her more than 20 years of nutritional counselling, she administered to hundreds of clients to whom she was completely devoted. She co-founded Living Proof Nutrition Strength Pilates in Mid-Town Manhattan. Lisa also published an e-book, Self Care = Health Care: A Health Empowerment Protocol From a Nutritionist’s Perspective. Lisa was ranked as one of the Best Nutritionists in New York City by Expertise.com from 2017 until her cancer diagnosis forced her into retirement in 2023.

Always generous with whatever she had, especially her capacity to love, Lisa surrounded herself with friends and filled her life with fun. She was always giving of herself, and her love was returned in the most sacred and wonderful way when she met her husband Andy in 2007. The combination of these two souls really did create beautiful music. Andy, a classically trained musician, accompanied lyrical magic within Lisa that had up until then been simply latent. But when the two of them came together to create, over two CDs’ worth of music resulted. Under the name of Luck & Senses, they performed concerts and recorded deliciously colorful, and poetic songs and videos that will exist as testaments to their love which they cemented in holy matrimony on July 16, 2011.

Lisa and Andy’s music, a symbol of their happy marriage and powerful love for each other, was cut short in the Summer of 2023 when Lisa was diagnosed with an anomalous, aggressive form of ovarian cancer. How painfully ironic that Lisa’s life-long dedication to wellness and clean diet and clean living could not save her from the insidious disease. Andy remained a stalwart in his care for Lisa until she exited her earthly vessel on the night of August 11, 2024. After an arduous battle, Lisa transitioned to her angelic form with her beloved Andy by her side in the quiet of their home, in the embrace of their eternal love.

Lisa Ann Jubilee is survived by her devoted, loving, beautiful husband Andrew Frederick Barbera, II, her stepson Dante Theodore Barbera, her sister Jane Myra Jubilee, her brother Glenn Douglass Jubilee, his wife Rose Diana Khalsa, her best friend Michele Ilene Beck, dozens of cousins, aunts and uncles here and in Europe and hundreds, if not thousands of friends, clients, colleagues and souls she touched along this life’s journey.

At the time of this announcement, plans for a NY-based celebration of life have not been made, but will be forthcoming.

Expressions of comfort, condolence and gratitude may be sent to the family via email (per Lisa’s wishes, save the trees by not using paper) to janejubilee@gmail.com.

Memorial donations can be sent to your local homeless shelter, animal shelter, or Planned Parenthood in Lisa’s name.

Father of all, we pray to you for Lisa, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
