Death in our diocesan family: Australia Lightfoot

It is with sadness that we share with you the news of the passing of Australia Lightfoot, age 90, on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in Camden, NJ, He served on the Episcopal House staff as the building sexton when Episcopal House was located on Rector Street in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Australia worked with our current building sexton, Cecil Broner, and with Michael Francaviglia, who remembers him as "a dear soul." Upon Australia's retirement Cecil became the entire custodial staff of Episcopal House.

Australia was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary; and four sons, Australia Jr., Norman, John (Preston) and Michael. He is survived by one son, James (Ali Fard Muhammad); three daughters-in-law, Barbara, Joyce and Mozelle; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. His funeral was held this morning in Willingboro, NJ.

God, our Father, we thank you that you have made each of us in your own image, and given us gifts and talents with which to serve you. We thank you for Australia, the years we shared with him, the good we saw in him, the love we received from him. Now give us strength and courage, to leave him in your care, confident in your promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
