The Children and Families Ministry Team introduces a new pilot program and fall morning retreat

Fall brings a season of change and reflection, with the start of a new school year, the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg in the air, and trees displaying their vibrant autumn colors. While many see this season as a time of endings, the Children and Families Ministry Team views it as an opportunity for new beginnings, renewal, and rest. To support this, the team is excited to announce two upcoming events.
The first is a regional pilot program for middle school parents and guardians at Saint Elizabeth’s in Ridgewood on Sunday, October 19. Learning in Faith is a support-group-style event that will begin as a book discussion focused on navigating the middle school years and supporting children effectively. Fliers have been emailed to churches within a 12-mile radius of Ridgewood, though all middle school parents and guardians in the diocese are welcome to attend. The program is intended as a pilot that may expand to other areas of the diocese in the future. Churches interested in hosting a similar program are encouraged to contact Donna Caputo. On Saturday, October 25, Sunday school teachers and directors are invited to a fall-inspired morning retreat, “Leaves, Laughter & Loving Your Ministry,” focused on self-care and support. Beginning at 9 AM at Grace Church in Nutley, the retreat provides an opportunity to step away from lesson plans, connect with colleagues, and recharge for the important work of nurturing young hearts. All who teach in the diocese, whether paid or volunteer, are welcome to join. Participants will enjoy fall treats, warm drinks, and practical strategies for caring for themselves while caring for others. For more information or to register, click here.
The Children and Families Ministries team also warmly invites all who work with children and families in their churches to share ideas, insights, and any specific needs. Your input helps shape programs and resources that support both leaders and the families they serve, ensuring that together we can nurture vibrant, thriving ministries across the diocese.
