Sam joined the Episcopal House staff as Chief Financial Officer of the diocese in August 2017. As the CFO, Sam is responsible for providing financial and other support to the governing organizations of the diocese, as well as to congregations.
After graduation from Dartmouth College, Sam spent the next 25 years at Bear, Stearns, rising to Senior Managing Director of Risk Management at the time it was purchased by JPMorgan Chase. He served in a similar capacity for Morgan for a few years before leaving to accept the role as CFO of Hugo Neu Corporation, a private company with investments in recycling, clean technology and real-estate.
Sam and his wife Sue have been active members of Christ Church in Short Hills for over 25 years. Sam has served his parish in many roles, including Warden, Chair of the Audit and Investment Committees, Vestry member, chalice bearer, lay reader, and member of the Investment, Finance, Parish Profile and Search committees. Sam is an Education for Ministry graduate and a member of the Board of Trustees of Stevens Institute of Technology.
- Member of the diocesan Program Staff.
- Preparation of annual Diocesan and Trustees budgets.
- Financial oversight and compliance with budgets of Council and Trustees.
- Preparation of periodic financial reports to Council, Trustees, and other committees, commissions, and organizations.
- Financial oversight of Diocesan Investment Trust, and interaction with congregations and related organizations regarding investment additions, withdrawals, and income distribution.
- Provide support to congregations with respect to financial reporting, treasury and accounting matters, completion of audits, and related matters.
- Interaction with congregations and staff with regards to enrollment and changes in medical and dental insurance coverage and questions with regards to such coverage.
- Preparation of long-term financial analyses of Diocese and congregations.
- Meetings with clergy and vestries/executive committees with regards to financial and stewardship issues, concerns, and opportunities.
- Develop and present workshops for treasurers and stewardship committees.
