As people of faith, we are called to engage and take our place in the world, in our state and in our community. We are called to care for and about our neighbors and about creation in all forms. That means sharing what we hope can make positive changes to the people who can act with us to bring those changes about.
An easy but effective way of engaging in advocacy is by writing a postcard. Easy because it can be done individually at home, convenient to your own schedule or as a group activity that brings people together. The investment in time and treasure is minimal but can have big rewards.
Writing a postcard can help encourage people to vote, inform our elected official about the outreach we do, and explain how budget cuts to services will affect those we work so hard to feed. The concerns that are important to each individual or congregation may be different but writing postcards as a means of advocacy can be applied to a variety of issues.
The Commission on Justice, Peace and Racial Reconciliation offers the Postcard Toolkit to help support your congregation and your parishioners eager to carry out their faith through action. Reach out if we can help and tell us about your experience using the toolkit. Happy writing.
