Grace Episcopal Church in Rutherford, NJ is hiring an experienced, reliable handyman to join our parish team. Reporting to the Priest-in-Charge and Church Wardens, the successful applicant will be responsible for oversight of the church buildings and grounds, including doing minor repairs and serving as a liaison with outside repair and maintenance companies.
The ideal candidate will have technical expertise and previous trade or handyman experience.
Job responsibilities:
- Perform walk-through assessments on a weekly basis, or as-needed in an emergency
- Work with outside vendors to secure estimates on major or emergency repairs
- Perform basic, minor repairs
- Follow workplace health and safety rules
- Coordinate service with relevant church personnel and handle complaints professionally
Handyman skills and qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as a handyman
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and tools
- Positive attitude, ability to work with various constituents and strong work ethic
- Can reliably work alone and as part of a team
Working hours:
- Part time, year-round
- Flexible hours
Compensation:
- $22–27/hour (based on experience)
- Position will require a background check upon hire.
