On Sunday, Dec. 8, Good Shepherd, Ringwood sponsored a Narcan training class. Narcan is an emergency nasal spray used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose.

The trainer was Pat Osterhoudt, a member of the Deer Clan of the Ramapough Lunape Nation. The training was in collaboration with Judy Zelikoff, Toxicology Professor, who facilitates many health programs at Good Shepherd through a grant from New York University.

Attendees learned how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, to always call 911, how to administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone (Narcan) and how to give rescue breaths and chest compressions. Everyone was given supplies of Narcan to take home.
