What is Youth Convo?

Youth Convo is a fully immersive new program for youth in our dioceses that is an educational and fellowship opportunity at the diocese’s 150th Convention.

Who can attend?

The 2024 program is open to youth who will be in grades 9 through 12 this coming fall.

When is Youth Convo?

Youth Convo will take place during the diocese’s Annual Convention the second weekend of November. Youth will arrive on the evening of Thursday, November 7 and end in the late afternoon of Saturday, November 9. This also happens to be the same weekend that New Jersey public schools are closed – God's gift to not just youth but those parents looking for something new for their high school kids to do while on break!

Where will this take place?

This year's Convention will be held at the Meadowlands Hilton in East Rutherford. Youth will be staying on property so that they are fully immersed in the Convention experience. Hotel rooms and meals will be provided.

Why should youth attend?

The Youth Convo is going to be a unique opportunity to learn more about Convention and why clergy and lay Deputies gather every year to vote on things such as budgets, resolutions, as well as to meet other youth from across the diocese. They will attend workshops, have discussions with the Bishop, and take part in small group discussions to gain a better understanding of how they can be involved in not just their church, but the diocese and the wider church. There are also opportunities to serve during the Saturday Worship Service that is always an amazing experience.

Who is running Youth Convo?

The Diocesan Youth Commission is the backbone of Youth Convo. They, along with staff from Cross Roads, will be the adults overseeing all aspects of the event. As volunteer members they are required to be fully certified in the Safe Church program that is required by The Episcopal Church. They are also long-time members of our diocese who have been working with youth at the congregational level as well as the diocesan level.

What is the cost?

There is a $50 registration fee for those who are attending to secure their place. Scholarships are available.

What happens next?

Once youth have registered for Youth Convo, they will receive an email with information on the upcoming Orientation. This Saturday morning event will provide the youth and their parents/guardians the opportunity to meet the members of the Youth Commission, meet other youth attending Youth Convo, and learn about what to expect at Youth Convo.
