About
You are invited to join Bishop Hughes on a pilgrimage to the sacred isle of Iona in Spring 2027.
Iona, off the west coast of Scotland, is the symbolic center of Scottish Christianity. Its fame began in 563AD when St. Columba, with thirteen followers, came to the island to establish a monastery. Through 1400 years of history its fortunes have fluctuated, from its heights as one of the greatest centers of learning in medieval Europe, to its lows as a crumbling ruin. However, the island has always been revered as a holy place, and, over the centuries, Iona has continually been reinvented and reconstructed as a center for pilgrimage. Time can be spent exploring Iona with the option to join in with the Iona Community and attend daily services in Iona Abbey.
