About
Led by experienced crocheter Nina Nicholson and experienced knitter Tina Kelley, this event is for knitters and crocheters who are comfortable with the basics of their craft and want to get started making the red “Melt the ICE” resistance hat. These hats originated in a Minneapolis yarn store and are currently sweeping the craft world.
Come join us to work alongside like-minded crafters, with Tina and Nina available to offer guidance if you get stuck.
Many people are planning to wear Melt the ICE hats to the No Kings 3 protests on Saturday, March 28. Start yours now so you’ll be ready to join them!
Attendance is limited to 35. This event is free, but attendees must bring their own materials (see below), and pre-registration is required by 5 PM Friday, Feb. 20.
Please note: Learning to knit or crochet takes time and practice; teaching those skills is outside the scope of this event.

Suggested patterns
There are a few other knit and crochet patterns available on Ravelry. Some of these patterns are free; all those that charge donate their proceeds to aid immigrants and asylum seekers.
Note on yarn
Check your pattern for a recommended yarn weight. The original knit pattern calls for worsted, DK or fingering weight yarn; Tina recommends worsted weight because it works up more quickly. Nina’s crochet pattern is designed for worsted weight, which she likewise recommends, but it can be adapted for DK or fingering weight. You will want to avoid either bulky or super-fine yarns.
